YY Canvas Assistant
Terms of Service
Last updated: June 2026
1. Educational Purpose
YY Canvas Assistant is a study support tool. It helps you understand tasks, explore concepts, check references, and draft ideas. It is not a submission service and is not a replacement for your own learning, thinking, and writing.
2. Your Responsibilities
By using this app you agree to:
- Check your course outline or Canvas site to confirm whether AI assistance is permitted for each specific assessment before using any AI feature.
- Take full ownership of your final submitted work.
- Acknowledge and properly cite any AI-generated material you incorporate, in line with your institution's requirements.
- Keep copies of AI outputs as evidence of your research and writing process where your institution or course requires it.
- Use this tool in a way that complies with your institution's academic integrity policy and each unit's specific rules.
3. Academic Integrity
Using AI outputs as submitted work where it is not permitted by your course, or failing to acknowledge AI assistance where required, may constitute a breach of academic integrity — including plagiarism or unauthorised assistance. Such breaches are governed by your institution's own policies and may carry serious consequences. YY is not liable for any academic penalties arising from your use or misuse of this tool.
Many institutions permit AI as a general learning aid but restrict or prohibit its use for specific assessments or quizzes. It is your responsibility to check what is allowed in each unit.
4. Canvas Access & Your Data
When you connect to Canvas, YY reads the following on your behalf:
| We access | We never access |
|---|---|
| Assignment names, due dates, instructions | Your submitted assignments or answers |
| Quiz structure and questions (during an active submission you start) | Other students' submissions or data |
| Course names and module listings | Your grades or private instructor feedback |
| Course pages and files you are enrolled to access | Your institution's private administrative data |
Your Canvas access token is stored only in your browser's local storage. It is never stored on YY's servers — it is only transmitted server-side for the duration of a single API request, solely to protect it from browser-level exposure.
5. Canvas Acceptable Use
Your use of Canvas through this app must comply with Canvas's Acceptable Use Policy and Master Terms of Service. This means no abusive automation, no scraping beyond your own enrolled data, and use only of APIs and credentials that Canvas makes available to students. YY's Canvas integration is designed to operate within these boundaries.
6. No Originality Guarantee
AI-generated content may be similar to outputs produced for other users or to publicly available web content. This app does not guarantee that any output will pass plagiarism detection or AI-detection tools. You should not use it with the intention of evading such detection. Always review, substantially edit, and properly attribute any material before submission.
7. Limitation of Liability
YY Canvas Assistant is provided as-is for educational support purposes. To the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any academic, professional, or other consequences arising from your use of this tool — including any misuse that breaches your institution's policies or Canvas's terms of service.
If you have questions about these terms, contact us through the app.
